After having used programs for years like Zoneminder CCTV and Shinobi CCTV on standard desktop computers, decided to switch full time to a Hikvision DVR. 4 Hikvision cameras at 2MP recording 24/7. The DVR has a nice feature of recognizing people, and not having many false positives due to lighting changes (sun/cloud/etc). With playback, can choose for the DVR to just play back the videos with people. Alerting zones can be set as well. Have a wireless mouse plugged into the unit too. With the cooling fan in the unit (this unit has a power brick outside the unit), don't expect to be putting this DVR in your regular living space. The stock fan (DVR date code August 2022 on box) is quite noisy and the high pitched noise does slightly dissipate with use, but not enough. I have replaced the fan with a Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX (40mm and 12volt). The Noctua package comes with wire connectors to cut and splice to the original NVR fan connector. I also have the fan blowing in, instead of as exhaust, and appears to run slightly cooler when touching the heatsink on the CPU. New Noctua fan is very quiet. Loud fan. Shipment issues. It's a small diameter fan due to case dimensions so it's not surprising there's some noise but additional fans at a lower fan speed might be quieter. I had shipment issues. Not sure if FedEx or BHPhoto was at fault. After 3-4 calls to BHPhoto customer support, BHPhoto shipped a replacement package which arrived on time. The replacement package BHPhoto shipped ended up being already opened. I found clear tape on top of the original sealing tape from Hikvision. Because I had already waited so long for it to arrive, I went ahead and started using the unit. I haven't opened the unit to see if the disk has been swapped by someone else.
